150th Celebration Event

On Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Lakeside Cemetery Association invites the community to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of Lakeside Cemetery. All of the activities and events are free and open to the public. Parking will be available at the west entrance to the cemetery.

Activities include:

  • Service of Celebration and Remembrance at 1:15 p.m. including music, a welcome by Lakeside Cemetery Association, Mayor’s Proclamation by Hastings Mayor Hicks, reflection and prayer by Gordon Gathright, raising of the American flag by the Veterans Honor Guard and Bag Pipes by Andrew Fox. The service will be at the plaza near the flag pole at the main cemetery entrance.
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides through the cemetery grounds
  • Narrated walking tours by costumed characters of Hastings founders grave sites by Friends of LeDuc and Historic Hastings
  • Historic cemetery records and maps dating back to 1867 in the Cemetery Office
  • Refreshments

Narrated Walking Tour

The walking tour of Hastings founders will include grave site narrations by costumed characters of Lakeside Cemetery Association founders Samantha Sprague Lewis, Emma LeDuc, Maria VanHoesen and Martha Van Slyck, as well as famous Hastings settlers General William Gates LeDuc, Brigadier General Charles P. Adams, Augustine W. Gardner and Alvaro Jerome W. Thompson. A walking tour that includes additional early Hastings settlers is available on Lakeside Cemetery’s website Self-Guided Tour.
